nashville landscape design, nashville, tn,

As if being gorgeous isn’t enough reason to plant the ‘Limelight’ Hydrangea, Hydrangea paniculata, in your Nashville landscape, there are plenty of other reasons.

I might be a little biased because hydrangeas are one of my most favorite types of plants to use in our landscape designs here in Nashville, Tn  But the ‘Limelight’ which is  a Paniculata, or panicle type hydrangea,  is just starting to “do-its-thang” when the dog-days-of-summer arrive.  I love that!

These hydrangeas are show stoppers in mid-summer and throughout the fall when their blooms turn a beautiful deep pink.

An added bonus is that the blooms are wonderful in arrangements, either fresh or dried.

To dry, simply cut long stems in dry weather in the fall, strip off the leaves, hang 2 or 3 stems together bundled with a rubber band… and there you have it!  Some folks like to spray paint the dried blooms gold or silver to use in holiday arrangements.

7 Reasons to plant ‘Limelight’ Hydrangeas in your Nashville Landscape

  1. Blooms on new wood in mid-summer.
  2. May be planted in a landscape in a group,  as a specimen plant, or in a  planter on the patio.
  3. Beautiful fluffy blooms (that don’t droop!) grow on a compact deciduous tree.  May grow to 8′ x 8′ if not pruned.
  4. Drought tolerant.
  5. Tolerates sun to part sun.
  6. Prefers loamy soil but tolerates most any soil type.
  7. Disease resistant.

As you can see,  the ‘Limelight’ Hydrangea is a perfect choice for your Nashville landscape.  To keep it compact, be sure to prune in late winter before the spring growing season starts.  Remember, it blooms on new wood in the spring.
